Happy New Year

31 December 2008

Hull & Humber

As 2008 gives way to 2009, a momentous year awaits the crews already signed up for the Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race. Just nine months separate them from the race start on the River Humber and, when the start cannon fires on 13 September, a 35,000 mile race track awaits.

This time last year, fond farewells were being waved in Australia as the Clipper 07-08 race fleet readied itself for the off to Singapore, and the new year was welcomed in typical Aussie style – a barbie, plenty of beers and some spectacular fireworks courtesy of Fremantle Sailing Club.

There is much to be done over the next few months. For the latest crew signings, they have the joys of Part A training to look forward to. For those who have completed their first seven days onboard one of Clipper’s stripped out ocean racing yachts, a further seven intense days of Part B race training awaits. For the Clipper maintenance team, refitting the race fleet continues and the first three boats are already back in the water and ready for their masts and new rigging. For the race team, meetings continue to take place around the world as negotiations continue with host ports, yacht clubs, tourist boards and local businesses. And more immediately, the Clipper Ventures stand design for the London Boat Show is now finalized (you will be able to find us at stand N36L) and a number of significant announcements will be made on press day. Clipper 09-10 crew members will also be gathering for the Crew Day on 17 January.

Recruitment also continues and there is still time for adventure seekers to become part of this great adventure. New year is a time for making resolutions and if the same old routine for yet another 12 months sounds like a bleak prospect, why not be bold in your thinking?  Those signed up have already decided that 2009 is going to be the year when their lives changed forever.

To all our crews – past, present or future, the team at Clipper Ventures wishes you a very happy new year.
